Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays, if not my very favorite. I LOVE to celebrate love! I know that a lot of people feel a tremendous amount of pressure around this day, because they feel they have to put together the perfect date and buy the best present.
In my opinion, just spending time with your significant other is enough, even it if is sitting on the couch watching a movie and eating pizza.
If you are looking for some ideas of something a bit more special or that takes planning, I have a few date ideas that you can put together for Valentine’s.
1. Recreate Your First Date or Meeting
Some couples don’t really have a defined first date, so you could consider going back to the place where you first met. Visit that meeting place as part of your date night.
If you are still struggling with how to make this idea come together, then just pick any date or place that has had meaning to you in the past and go back to it.
From a person that dated their high school sweetheart and is still with them, I have many fond memories of recreating our first date every year.
2. Progressive Dinner
When you go out on a date, why eat at only one place? You can put together a progressive dinner night where you and your significant other visit several different restaurants or establishments.
The way a progressive dinner works, is you have each course of the meal at a different location. There are normally four stops for the night:
-Drinks
-Appetizers
-Main course
-Dessert
If you plan to have a progressive dinner, just make sure you eat a very small amount at each stop.
Depending on your living arrangements, you could start or end your night at your house or theirs. This would be a good place to exchange gifts if you are planning to do that.
A date like this could be spread out over the course of a few hours to give you time to feel hungry again. I’ve done progressive dinners and struggled to be hungry at the third stop, much less the fourth.
3. Split Up at the Store and Buy Each Other Valentine’s Gifts
Decide ahead of time that you are going to go to a store to buy each other gifts during your date. On the holiday itself, all Valentine’s things will be on sale, so this idea can also be cost effective.
Pick a store or two that you want to shop in and set a maximum amount to spend. Split up and shop. Since holiday sections are usually in one location, you will have to figure out how you’ll shop for each other on those aisles without doing it at the same time.
Once you are done picking out the gifts for one another, you can exchange them over dinner. It is a lot of fun to sneak around with what you got for the other person and make sure they don’t see what you purchased.
When it comes to dating on this holiday, you can make it as big or small as you like. The important thing is that you spend time together and enjoy one another’s company.
