13 Ways Successful People Deal With Toxic People

Among friends, family and co-workers, there are those whose attitudes can be demeaning and toxic. It is difficult relating to some of these people and thus it becomes a challenge. So how do we get out from the hole and be masters of our own fates?
The best way is to learn from successful people how they have approached the same role of winning the war against toxic individuals.

1. They set limits

Toxic people try to consume you and make you swim deep in their problems. They don’t want to see solutions so they can waste your time by pressuring you to join their pity party.
Successful people understand that there is a fine line between offering to listen to the problems and getting themselves involved too deep in the negative emotional twists of such complainers. That is why they set limits and distance themselves when necessary.

2. They don’t expect or request change

By expecting change, you lower your energy and create a resistance in people. Successful people do not want to be faced with a tone of disapproval, blame or rejection by a toxic person. So they simply suggest feedback and let them decide what they will do with it. They don’t demand actions or instant change.

3. They don’t get embroiled in fights

Successful people know how important it is to store energy. And when it comes to battling with a toxic person, they do well to manage their emotions.
By managing their emotions they can live to fight another day and avoid being brutally beaten. They choose their battles wisely and always pick the right time to be engaged in a fight.

4. They don’t allow anyone to restrict their happiness

Successful people do not allow other people’s opinions to determine their joy. They are masters of their own happiness.
And so, anything that is successfully accomplished and needs to be celebrated cannot be affected by what toxic people are thinking or doing.

5. They don’t forget

By not forgetting what a wrongdoer has done to them, successful people can move on and focus on protecting themselves from future harm. It is not as if forgiveness doesn’t play a part to their success, but they simply do not want to be involved in the mistakes of others.

6. They forge a support system

Successful people understand that battling toxic people alone can be exhausting. To avoid such nerve racking mental exercise, they surround themselves with people who are supportive and willing to help them during difficult situations.

7. They get some rest

They understand the need to stay positive, creative and proactive. And the way they can do this is by getting some sleep. With a well deserved rest, successful people can manage their stress levels and be recharged enough to deal effectively with toxic people.

8. They focus on solutions rather than problems

The best way to manage your emotional state is to fixate on the solutions of the problems you are facing. Successful people focus on personal development and improve their circumstances, thus their attitude produces positive emotions and reduces stress.
Instead of thinking or focusing on how crazy toxic people can be, they think of how they can handle the situation toxic individuals have presented.

9. They set barriers

You can’t deal with everyone in the same way. That is why successful people establish boundaries to rise above the negative people around them. By doing this, they can predict the actions of toxic people. This also equips them with knowing when to put up barriers with negative people and when not to.

10. They are self aware

By being self aware you are able to determine how far anyone can go before he or she pushes your buttons. Maintaining an emotional distance requires awareness. That is why successful people can manage situations, even when they are confronted by a derailed person. They smile, nod and move on.

11. They rise above negativity

Everyone will agree that toxic people are irrational and crazy. They cannot be reasoned with, so instead of trying to get muddled up in the mix, they focus on not responding to the frenzy and chaos, and respond only to the facts.

12. They never play the victim

While toxic people can play the field to their advantage, you are left to decide whether play the victim or not. Successful people do not allow themselves to be victimized by their emotional state, and instead focus on owning up from within to whatever negativity that surrounds them.

13. They never judge

Successful people are not judgmental. They understand that this can become addictive if they make it a habit. That is why successful people focus on other elements, such as compassion, understanding, respect and forgiveness.

10 Things You Need To Stop Doing If You Want To Be Successful

Success means something different to every person: like beauty, it exists in the eye of the beholder.  It is your responsibility to determine what success means for you, and how you go about breeding success in your life.
Despite this, there are definitely hindrances to success. These drawbacks are ubiquitous in their ability to deter your success. But don’t fret because if you seek success, and you fear your actions are blocking your desire for success, you have the power and control to overcome the following obstacles.

1. Making Excuses

Stop blaming other people for why you don’t get what you want. Stop refusing to accept responsibility for your mistakes. You make your own choices and you make your own mistakes. In general, stop justifying your poor choices and stop attributing your lack of success to things outside of your control. Successful people don’t do this.
You are going to err. You are going to fail. When this inevitably occurs look within, in a non-judgmental manner, and figure out what you can do better next time. Don’t waste time looking externally by creating excuses for why you didn’t achieve success.

2. Focusing on the Negatives

Yes, there are negative circumstances in life that you have no control over. There are also plenty of positive experiences in your life. I am willing to bet you have more positives in your life than negatives. You are capable of living with a positive perspective. If you want to cultivate success in your life than you need to concentrate on all the good. You shouldn’t disregard the negative, but you don’t have to give it so much of your attention. Otherwise you are never going to be satisfied because you are so focused on the unfavorable conditions of your life. Even if you reach a level of ostensible success, your continued focus on the negatives will prevent you from relishing your accomplishments.

3. Fearing Failure

As I previously stated, YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL! There is no reason to fear it. Rather, you should embrace it. Learn from it, and ultimately improve from it.
When you are successful you know you are always trying your best. When you fail it is not a reflection of you as a person; you are not a flawed individual. View failure as an opportunity to grow, not as something to be feared.

4. Looking for the Easy Way

I want to preface by stating that attaining success isn’t supposed to be an improbable venture where you have to overcome a certain amount of adversity and hardship. I am opining that successful people don’t look for the easy way through life.
Merely strolling through life on cruise control is not the blueprint for success. You need to challenge yourself at times. Push yourself and stretch your limits. Aim to reach your maximum potential, and then go beyond that. That is a success in itself.

5. Beating Yourself Up

You wouldn’t ever beat yourself up physically so why would you do it emotionally and mentally? Learning how to skillfully deal with your thoughts and emotions when you are facing adverse situations is crucial to being successful.
Get upset over things. Express your emotions in an appropriate manner. Be unhappy from time to time. It is going to happen. But don’t ruminate over unpleasant memories and beat yourself up over things that already occurred. Too much time and energy spent on this diverts your attention away from more important endeavors like progressing toward your goals.

6. Being Ungrateful

The best way to establish more contentment in your life is to be more grateful. If you want to push away happiness, joy, and bliss than be ungrateful. Gratitude breeds happiness but it also breeds success. If you are grateful for your life and everything that comprises it you are going to have a less complicated time attaining wealth and accomplishing your goals.
I don’t just mean financial wealth because wealth includes all kinds of valuables. I am not proposing that all financially wealthy people are grateful, and therefore, successful, or that all financially poor people are ungrateful, and therefore unsuccessful.
Being ungrateful is not congruent with getting ahead in life. If you crave success than observe everything you are grateful for. Your gratitude will serve as a compass for your life. It will guide your decision-making, and lead you to success.

7. Concentrating Solely on Your Needs

Hopefully this goes without saying but focusing only on yourself is not going to help you attain success. You could be the wealthiest person on the planet, and it is apparent that you are extremely successful. If you accrued your wealth by taking advantage of people, or by being selfish and egotistical, you are not successful in my book. You probably wouldn’t be very happy either. The best way to succeed in life is by helping someone else!

8. Getting Distracted

You were going to start your book but…You were going to launch your dream business idea but…You were going to travel through Asia but…
I get it. Things come up. Life takes you on a different course. It happens sometimes. But don’t allow yourself to become distracted from realizing your dreams. When distractions obstruct you from your passions than you are moving further and further away from claiming your ultimate successes.
This starts with your daily life. It is fun and often necessary to log onto Facebook and check emails, but don’t allow the modern technological age to prevent you from the work that needs to be finished today. Success is based on working toward your goals while not letting disruptions hinder that.

9. Living Aimlessly

It is your responsibility to ascertain your life goals and objectives. Being successful means you are fulfilling your life’s purpose every day.
Whether your purpose is super ambitious such as solving world hunger or more feasible like being happy, doesn’t matter. The point is that you are aiming to be the best you can be. Steadily wandering through life without any ambitions or without contributing anything to society is not what successful people do.

10. Giving Up

When you face an improbable obstacle in life how do you respond? Do you give up, or do you keep pressing on? Successful people don’t give up. They commit themselves to reaching their final destination. They may not ever get there, but they don’t allow impediments to prevent them from trying. This means continuing on despite failures and disappointments.
Success encompasses a lot of different arenas. What works for financial success may not translate into relationship success. Being successful as an athlete doesn’t necessarily make you successful as a student as well. There are varying degrees of success depending on what situation you are in.
Regardless, the fundamental backbone of success is trying your best. If you put forth your best effort, without harming others in the process, than you are a successful person. This can apply to work, family, friends, relationships, hobbies, etc. As the late great John Wooden said, “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.” I think that sums it up beautifully.

5 Life Lessons You Never Learned in School

To the untrained ear, the advice given to Jim Rohn by his mentor Earl Schoaff sounds contradictory.

“Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job,” the late philosopher says with his unique cadence and tone.

But listen to the words from Rohn’s mouth and you know that this man’s advice is anything but contradictory. He’s not saying you shouldn’t work hard at a job you love. The hard work comes naturally when you love what you do.

What Rohn is saying is that personal development—the building and strengthening of you—is how you become better at everything else. Communication, time management, goal setting, leadership—these all improve when you do. SUCCESS has compiled a series of five guides on communication, time management, goal setting, leadership and personal development, based on the transcripts of Rohn’s most popular lectures and writings. Released this month in the SUCCESS Store, The Jim Rohn Guide Series comprises curated, 20-minute infusions of wisdom you’ll not likely find elsewhere.

Here we share the SUCCESS editors’ five favorite lessons from the series:

Lesson 1: Communication

“In order to be effective, your communication should be on purpose. Yes, occasionally you may say something off the top of your head and that can hold weight with others, but this is the exception and not the rule. Know what you want to communicate, when you want to communicate and how you want to communicate.”
—from The Jim Rohn Guide to Communication

Lesson 2: Personal Development

“The quest for personal development is the solving of problems. Success is simply solving problems. Sure, some things are complicated, but if you take it one piece at a time--solve the problems, put it back together--you can’t believe the enterprise you could build. Take it a piece at a time, master it, and then put it back together to solve it.”

—from The Jim Rohn Guide to Personal Development

Lesson 3: Goal Setting

“A life best lived is a life by design. Not by accident, and not by just walking through the day careening from wall to wall and managing to survive. That’s okay. But if you can start giving your life dimensions and design and color and objectives and purpose, the results can be staggering.”
—from The Jim Rohn Guide to Goal Setting

Lesson 4: Leadership

“Be strong but not rude. Be kind but not weak. Be bold but not a bully. Be humble but not timid. Be thoughtful but not lazy. Be proud but not arrogant. Have humor without folly.”

—from The Jim Rohn Guide to Leadership

Lesson 5: Time Management

“When you work, work. When you play, play. Don’t mix the two.”

—from The Jim Rohn Guide to Time Management

4 Secrets to Giving a Great Marketing Presentation

Presentation skills are critical to producing an engaging and interesting teleseminar that gets people to show up and to want more. Here's how you can make your teleseminars entertaining to your attendees:

1. Deliver great content. This is the most important presentation skill. In your marketing, you promised you were going to solve a problem for your customers. Deliver exactly what you promised and maybe even a little bit more. During your teleseminars, demonstrate to your attendees that you're helping them solve their problem in a unique way that's easy for them to implement. Below are five keys to ensure you'll do just that.
  • Focus on specifics. The goal is to provide very clear, specific tactics and information that folks can immediately implement. If you're interviewing an expert and he says, "Well, you have to do X, Y, Z . . .," respond with "Exactly how do you do X, Y, Z?" You not only want to tell listeners what to do but how to do it so they can implement what you promised they'd be able to implement.
  • Keep it relevant. Don't go off on tangents and talk about things that aren't related. Focus your attention and your guest's attention on exactly what you promised you'd deliver.
  • Make it easy to apply. Make your content easy to implement so your attendees get the results you promised. You might even want to emphasize a particular item by saying, "This is something you're going to want to write down." You may want to list these items in a quick-start guide and, at the end of the call, wrap up with a quick summary: "These are the three things we talked about today. To solve the X, Y, Z problem, these are the five steps. Let me recap them for you.
  • Be practical. Keep your information as simple to learn and as easy for them to implement as possible. Let attendees know the content you're delivering doesn't require any specialized or technical know-how, or if it does require specialized or technical know-how, then consider providing a bonus program or track to help them catch up.
  • Make it memorable. You want your training to really sink in. One of the best ways to make a lasting impression is through storytelling. Quick stories about how you got started, or about how a person you know learned the material, or about how some celebrity or a famous brand is implementing what you're teaching--those little stories are important to help illustrate what you're trying to impart to your listeners.
2. Grab their attention. You want to start your teleseminar with something dramatic--a question like "Are you frustrated with the results you're getting from your marketing?" or "Are you scared to death about having your teen driving?" Use something dramatic that starts the program off with a bang. The goal is to grip the audience immediately, capture their attention, and get them focused on what you have to deliver.

Next, hit them with the big promise. For instance, if you begin with the question "Is your teen ready to drive in traffic?" follow it up immediately with the big promise: "Well, if not, in this program, we're going to teach you and your teen how your teen can drive safely. Your son or daughter will be confident and ready for any situation he or she might encounter out on the road." It's a big promise to say that teen drivers are going to be ready for any situation they find out on the road, but that's the promise that's important and relevant to these buyers.

The third attention grabber is the brief story. This story introduces a character who has a problem you can solve. In a teen driving teleseminar, you might say, "My daughter was crying and frustrated because she veered off the road and was afraid to try driving again. We taught her a few simple skills that I'm going to teach you in this program, and now she's excited to drive. Not only that, she's confident enough to drive her little brother to his baseball practices so my wife doesn't have to do it all the time." This simple story provides a bit of drama and human interest.

3. Illustrate your points with stories and examples. As you go through your teaching elements, whenever possible, use case stories to explain them. It's as simple as telling how someone else implemented what you are trying to teach. "Sally faced this same problem. Here is the solution she implemented, and here's what happened as a result. Her life is so much better now because . . ." Telling a story gives you compelling content that will really excite and engage your listeners.

4. Use teasers. Finally, at the end of your program, you should have teasers for the next program. For instance, if you're doing a teleseminar on navigating traffic with defensive driving skills, you could promote the upcoming module: "Next time in our teleseminar series, we've got honing your skills in parking lots and driving in reverse … ." It's your responsibility to make your teleseminars interesting enough that listeners want to show up on the next call. You not only need to deliver excellent content, but you need to deliver it in a way that's compelling and fun.
